Limited Series and One of a Kind

Every JeanElton piece is made and decorated by hand, and every firing introduces its own variation. No two pieces are identical, including two worked from the same motif.

One of a Kind. The piece exists once. Its form and surface treatment were arrived at for that piece alone, and it is not part of a series.

Limited Series. The motif can be worked again. Form and surface treatment will be recognizably the same, while the piece will evidence some slight differences — hand decoration and the organic nature of firing see to that.

Pieces in a series are not made in advance or produced to a set number. A new piece is made only when one is ordered, and each is numbered in sequence with a Roman numeral following its title.

See it for yourself.

When you order from a Limited Series, the piece you receive will not be the one photographed. That is worth being plain about, because it is the thing most people wonder and few ask.

So rather than describe the variation, we will show it. Designs Revisited gathers designs the studio has come back to over the years — some worked many times, across as much as a decade. Look through any one of them and you will see what changes between siblings and what does not.

What you will find is that the differences are real and small. A line falls slightly differently. A glaze breaks a little warmer in one firing than the last. The motif, the palette, the character of the surface — the things that made you stop on the piece in the first place — carry through every version.

That is what a Limited Series is: not a reproduction, and not a gamble. The same design, arrived at again by the same hand.
