Understanding Scale

Every piece is listed with its dimensions in inches. Scale tells you something the dimensions alone don't: how the piece will occupy a space, and how much of the room's attention it will command.

Scale is judged within each Collection, against the range in which the form is created.

Compact. Sized for smaller spaces — a shelf, a mantel, a table with objects already on it. A Compact piece earns its place where a larger one could not go.

Featured. Sized to hold its own position. It anchors the surface on which it sits and is seen before the things around it.

Statement. Sized to command the space around it. A piece at this scale raises the question of what else belongs in the room with it.

Custom Scale. Some pieces fall outside the usual range for their form, or are shaped in a way that makes the standard comparison unhelpful. These are marked Custom Scale — see the piece's own dimensions and photographs.
