Creamy Arc

Creamy Arc is a study in restraint and presence. The unadorned Pristine surface lets the clay body speak for itself — a warm, ivory cream that catches ambient light along every curve of the arc's sweeping profile. Without painted decoration to direct the eye, the form becomes the subject: the satisfying thickness of the walls, the gentle asymmetry of a handcrafted edge, and the interplay of shadow and highlight that shifts as the viewer moves around the piece. It is quiet confidence rendered in clay.

A member of the JeanElton ArcVessel Collection, this piece captures the bold geometry of an arc in three dimensions — a sweeping curve that rises from the surface like a cresting wave frozen in clay. Shaped not on a potter's wheel but through an extrusion process — much as a pastry chef forces buttercream through a form to create bold, sweeping ribbons of frosting, here the clay itself is pressed through a die to produce the ArcVessel's distinctive curve. The open form reveals a richly decorated interior while the smooth exterior completes the sculptural silhouette. Each ArcVessel carries a satisfying heft and a confident presence, its curving walls channeling light across the surface in ways that shift with the viewer's perspective.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
