Calder Mobile Tribute VII
A light and airy tribute to the master of mobiles.
A Statement-scale OvalVase finished in a Restrained & Open Line & Form surface treatment, in a Multi-Color / Cream color palette. 17 inches tall, 7 inches wide, 5 inches deep, weighing 5 pounds, with a matte interior and a matte exterior. Line & Form pieces use deliberate linear marks — incisions, applied lines, or directional strokes — to define the visual structure of the piece.

The Story of the Work
Calder Mobile Tribute VII commands attention through its generous scale and bold compositional choices—large-format geometric shapes in saturated primaries occupy the surface with the confident spatial authority of a Calder gouache painting. The taller format allows the composition to develop vertical narratives, with elements stacked and counterbalanced in arrangements that create a strong sense of upward thrust tempered by lateral movement. Crisp lines and precise circles contrast with more gestural angular forms, creating a dialogue between control and spontaneity that lies at the heart of Calder's artistic philosophy.
This work belongs to the JeanElton OvalVase Collection, distinguished by its elliptical footprint and the gentle warping that creates asymmetrical curves when viewed from different angles. The commanding proportions of this piece give the Calder-inspired composition room to breathe, with generous expanses of cream ground between the graphic elements creating the sense of lightness and air that defines the mobile aesthetic.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
