Calder Mobile Tribute VIII
A light and airy tribute to the master of mobiles.
A Statement-scale OvalVase finished in a Restrained & Open Line & Form surface treatment, in a Multi-Color / Cream color palette. 17 inches tall, 7 inches wide, 6 inches deep, weighing 6 pounds, with a matte interior and a matte exterior. Line & Form pieces use deliberate linear marks — incisions, applied lines, or directional strokes — to define the visual structure of the piece.

The Story of the Work
Calder Mobile Tribute VIII is the most expansive expression of the studio's homage to Alexander Calder—a grand ceramic canvas alive with the full spectrum of the master's visual language. Concentric target circles in vivid orange and blue anchor the composition, while jagged zigzag contours and sweeping diagonal lines carve the cream surface into zones of concentrated graphic energy. The scale and density of the decoration create an immersive visual experience, with bold primary shapes jostling and harmonizing in equal measure, much as Calder's largest outdoor stabiles command attention through sheer exuberance of form and color.
This work belongs to the JeanElton OvalVase Collection, distinguished by its elliptical cross-section that creates an elegant, softened silhouette. As the largest piece in the Calder Mobile Tribute series, the form's generous proportions and deeper elliptical profile provide a commanding three-dimensional stage for the graphic surface treatment, with the curvature revealing new compositional relationships with each shift in viewing angle.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
