This OvalVase shimmers with quiet intensity, its surface a layered composition of warm siennas, soft greens, dusky yellows, and brilliant reds. The visual energy unfolds gradually — spirals, grids, and painterly washes emerge and recede in a complex topography that evokes memory, emotion, and the passage of time. Amid the textured forms, playful contrasts appear: bold polka dots next to fine ink lines, transparent veils brushing against opaque fields. The composition suggests both spontaneity and underlying order, like a jazz improvisation structured by unspoken rhythm.
The rim undulates subtly, lending movement to the elliptical form, while the interior — finished in a pale chartreuse gloss — adds a bright, refreshing contrast to the tonal warmth of the exterior. The combination of bold design and tender restraint makes this piece both deeply expressive and contemplative.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
