The Story of the Work
Shadow Glyph I is a contemplative work in the JeanElton OvalVase (OV) Collection. With its tall, slender posture and 17-inch height, it invites a second glance to decipher the interplay of hand-cut geometric shapes across its matte surface. The calm rhythm of triangles and trapezoids is interrupted—intentionally—by a vertical sequence of circular portals that punctuate the design, offering glimpses into the interior space and allowing light to pass through like a secret script. The result is a piece that feels both modern and timeless, like a glyph from an unknown alphabet.
Its gentle curves and neutral palette lend it quiet sophistication, making it an ideal presence in minimalist interiors, creative studios, or architectural spaces. The subtle asymmetry in the rim and portal placement only deepen the sense of quiet intrigue.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
