The Story of the Work
A hush of green beneath darkened skies: Moss Veil is a contemplative piece in the JeanElton OvalVase (OV) Collection, matte on both interior and exterior. With a surface treatment that evokes shadowed forest floors and the lichen-covered hush of stone, this piece leans into organic mystery. Swaths of green, pale yellow, and ash-black intertwine in a painterly composition, creating the impression of something both emerging and receding—like moss blooming on an ancient wall or mist threading through a wooded glade.
Its tall form is capped with an asymmetrical, softened notch, inviting the viewer to look inward. The opening not only disrupts the silhouette in a gentle, natural way but also suggests a slow reveal, encouraging close attention and quiet engagement. Despite the wildness of its surface, the overall effect is one of subdued rhythm and elegant restraint.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
