The Story of the Work
Celestial Drift is a contemplative work in the JeanElton OvalVase (OV) Collection. With its deep matte surface, this tall vessel suggests the shifting patterns of a distant nebula or the gentle eddy of stardust adrift in space. Hazy layers of violet, indigo, charcoal, and pale silver give way to clusters of hand-dotted constellations—each tiny sphere suggesting an orbit, a presence, a gravitational pull.
The gently undulating rim further enhances the sense of upward drift, like a soft atmospheric wave reaching beyond the bounds of the vessel’s form. The matte finish on both the interior and exterior allows for a visual softness that invites close study and quiet reflection.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
