The Story of the Work
Party Boat captures the thrill of a summer evening on the water — fireworks blooming overhead, their reflections shattering into ribbons of color across the dark surface below. The Prism Fireworks treatment scatters starbursts, pinwheels, and radiating explosions of yellow, orange, blue, and red across the wide interior, each burst rendered with the kind of exuberant detail that makes the eye linger and celebrate. The low, open profile stretches the spectacle across a generous surface, while the warm exterior anchors the scene like the hull of the boat from which the best view is always had.
A member of the JeanElton RectangularVessel Collection, this piece showcases the distinctive open form that has become a signature of the collection. With gently upturned edges that rise like the prow of a vessel at sea, the rectangular silhouette frames the hand-painted interior, creating a natural stage for the artist's detailed surface work. The interplay of architectural form and organic decoration gives each RectangularVessel a dynamic tension — structure meeting spontaneity in fired clay.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
