A Coat of Many Colors

A celebration of chromatic abundance, this work presents vivid streams of royal purple, deep crimson, sunlit gold, and cobalt blue cascading across the form in bold, unbroken ribbons. Each color asserts its presence while harmonizing with its neighbors, creating an effect both festive and commanding — a pageant of color draped across the sculptural curve of clay with the confidence of a royal garment.

This work belongs to the JeanElton SailVase (SV) Collection. The sweeping asymmetrical silhouette amplifies the directional energy of the streaming color bands, each ribbon following the natural arc of the form from base to undulating rim. The matte finish across the exterior deepens the saturation of every hue, while the interior provides a quiet counterpoint that draws the eye inward.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
