The Story of the Work
Rhythmic Flux is a dynamic work in the JeanElton SailVase (SV) Collection. Its matte surface treatment is a bold interplay of deep blue, marigold, crimson, and black, swirling in energetic loops and bursts across a grid of white squares. The patterns dance along the curvature of the form in a carefully orchestrated chaos, calling to mind jazz improvisation, street murals, or a time-lapse of traffic across a city at night.
The rim rises and falls in jagged motion, mirroring the pulse of the surface energy, while the matte orange interior offers a moment of stillness—a glowing center of warmth that anchors the piece. Together, the form and surface create a compelling tension between structure and spontaneity, where rhythm and unpredictability meet in harmony.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
