Night Route I

Sweeping white lines cut across a dark ground with the authority of routes charted through unfamiliar terrain. Each bold curve claims its path with confidence, luminous against the matte black surface, creating a map of movement that rewards the eye at every angle. The graphic tension between the heavy dark field and the bright, assured strokes gives the work a striking immediacy.

This work belongs to the JeanElton TallVase Collection, the studio's most prolific family of forms. Rising vertically from a compact footprint, each TallVase presents its hand-painted surface as a continuous panorama — the decoration wrapping fully around the form, revealing new details with every turn. The gentle taper and organic rim give each piece a quiet individuality within a consistent, commanding silhouette.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
