Choppy Cream II
Restless edges atop quiet clay
A Featured-scale TallVase finished in a Black & White Line & Form surface treatment, in a Metallic & Cream color palette. 13 inches tall, 11 inches wide, 10 inches deep, weighing 4 pounds, with a matte interior and a matte exterior. Line & Form pieces use deliberate linear marks — incisions, applied lines, or directional strokes — to define the visual structure of the piece.

The Story of the Work
Choppy Cream is an arrestingly textured work whose irregular, sharply undulating rim breaks the stillness of the smooth body below. The rim chops and jags in short, decisive movements — not shattered like a fracture but rhythmic, like whitecaps on an otherwise calm surface. The pale, matte clay absorbs light evenly across the vessel walls, making the choppy rim the sole source of visual energy. Each peak casts its own small shadow into the interior, creating a shifting pattern of light that animates the form from above.
This work belongs to the JeanElton TallVase Collection, the studio's most prolific family of forms. Rising vertically from a compact footprint, each TallVase commands attention through form alone — the unadorned surface inviting the eye to follow every curve, fold, and shadow as it travels around the piece. The gentle taper and organic rim give each piece a quiet individuality within a consistent, commanding silhouette.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
