The Story of the Work
Orbit Dusk is a contemplative piece in the JeanElton TallVase (TV) Collection. With its gently sloping rim and brooding metallic finish, it feels like a captured moment at twilight—a quiet pause before night fully falls.
The entire surface, inside and out, is treated in palladium, yielding a satin matte finish that oscillates subtly between silvery charcoal and smoky graphite, depending on the light. The exterior carries faint variations in hue and reflectivity, inviting prolonged attention. The rim itself undulates slightly, adding movement to an otherwise meditative form.
This quiet variation around the circumference is not accidental. The changing height is carefully designed to mirror the uneven rhythms of the natural world—an homage to hills against a darkening sky or the silhouette of a horizon shifting as you move. The form is both grounded and celestial.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity. This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
