Red Armor

Red Armor is a broad, defensive work whose metallic exterior meets a vivid crimson interior in a line of dramatic confrontation. The dark, matte outer surface reads as protection — a surface designed to absorb rather than display. But at the rim, the interior red pushes outward with unmistakable vitality, a persistent warmth that the armor cannot fully contain. The shallow, wide proportions amplify this tension, presenting the contrast at maximum breadth.

This work belongs to the JeanElton TallVase Collection, the studio's most prolific family of forms. Rising vertically from a compact footprint, each TallVase presents its hand-painted surface as a continuous panorama — the decoration wrapping fully around the form, revealing new details with every turn. The gentle taper and organic rim give each piece a quiet individuality within a consistent, commanding silhouette.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
