Sunwatcher

Sunwatcher is a radiant work in the JeanElton TallVase (TV) Collection. With bold, sweeping petals in golden yellow set against a matte black background, this vessel evokes the quiet strength and optimism of sunflowers—those ever-faithful followers of the sun. The floral motif wraps organically around the form, with leaves in soft greens accenting the rhythmic verticality of the blooms. A circular portal, nestled at the heart of one sunflower, offers both visual intrigue and a literal window through which light can pass, further echoing the theme of orientation toward illumination.

The rim, undulating in graceful waves, softens the angularity of the graphic contrast and invites the viewer into the vessel’s inner space. Both interior and exterior are finished in matte, enhancing the earthy vitality of the form and reinforcing its tactile intimacy.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
