The Story of the Work
Through the Lattice is a meditative work in the JeanElton TallVase (TV) Collection. This striking vessel invites the viewer to experience contrast—between structure and spontaneity, geometry and nature. A field of white diagonal lines crisscrosses the surface like a sculpted lattice, partially revealing and partially concealing the vibrant floral forms that bloom beneath. Bold orange petals and verdant green leaves press forward, almost as if breaking free from the net, bringing with them a sense of movement, vitality, and quiet rebellion.
The matte black interior draws the eye inward, creating an unexpected sense of depth and calm—a counterpoint to the lively exterior. With its interplay of pattern and organic form, this piece evokes memories of garden trellises and sun-warmed days, filtered through the modern grid of perception.
The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its catalogue reference.
