Lustrous Lotus XI

Dark luster unveiled! The interior of this piece smolders with a deep, shifting bronze — a hand-applied metallic surface that moves from dusky amber to near-black as the light plays across it. The effect is moody and magnetic, as though the bowl holds its own private dusk. At the rim, the dark finish traces the undulating edge in a thin metallic line before giving way to the cream matte exterior — smooth, quiet, and cool against the warmth within.

What gives this piece its sculptural authority is the form of the UnfurlingPedestal — a shape that rises from a tapered base and opens outward in a sweep of undulating edges, like a blossom caught in the act of opening. Each piece is unique: the rim curls and dips differently every time, giving every UnfurlingPedestal its own silhouette. At roughly a foot across and only a few inches tall, the form is intimate in scale but bold in presence — it commands a tabletop, a mantel, or a shelf the way a single perfect bloom commands a vase.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
