The cream matte exterior — smooth, warm, and velvety — gives way to a glossy white interior that catches and reflects light with a soft lunar glow. Without color or metallic treatment to compete for attention, every curve of the rim, every dip and rise, becomes the subject. The interplay of matte and gloss across a single palette is quietly theatrical, shifting as you move around the piece.

What gives this piece its sculptural authority is the form of the UnfurlingPedestal — a shape that rises from a tapered base and opens outward in a sweep of undulating edges, like a blossom caught in the act of opening. Each piece is unique: the rim curls and dips differently every time, giving every UnfurlingPedestal its own silhouette. The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.
